Site Information
The Film Asylum was founded in September 2001 and has gone through several incarnations before finally coming to rest within the design you see today. Although there are a huge number of great (and not so great) movie related web sites on the internet, we consider our dwelling to be rather unique in that our focus is on genre cinema as a whole and doesn't single out any one particular subject such as horror or sci-fi. Our genre related theme mixed with our UK / US target readership gives us a niche that very few other sites have achieved.
Our passion for horror, sci-fi, fantasy and action movies is the primary reason for the creation of the site and, as we continue to expand and tailor the site, we hope that you find it a valuable source for cutting edge news, images and trailers and reviews.
We pride ourselves in our unbiased approach to the movies we review. Whether it be the latest multi-million dollar blockbuster or a more modest independent production, we ensure that only our honest opinion is printed to ensure that your hard earned cash isn't wasted thanks to an unbalanced review.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank every single person that has supported our site over the past few years including all the other movie enthusiasts like my self that spend many a long hour managing similar sites such as ours for little or no financial reward. Do the movie industry know how lucky they are? Also a big thanks to the distribution companies who have seen the value in The Film Asylum and to all those who support us by sending in comments, reviews and general industry information. We salute you!

I guess you could blame me for getting all this up and running. Having been a major fan of genre movies since the early eighties, my desire to turn my movie passion into something that I could share with others became reality thanks to the internet.
Movie tastes
Horror, Sci-fi, Fantasy and Action. I also have a soft spot for lower budget films of the cheesy variety. Hey, I'm only human.

Name
  Ryan McDonald (Staff Writer)
Info
A fine movie reviewer who's taste for the fine classics contrast strongly against our other reviewers who have absolutely no taste whatsoever.
Movie tastes
Aussie Ryan spends WAY too much time watching bad films, but also happens to enjoy mainstream movies as much as anyone ("my favorite film, get ready to scream, is Forest Gump"). However, nothing gets him more excited than watching some guy in a rubber monster suit, or a film about large-breasted lesbian vampires.

Name   Stuart Crawford (Staff Writer)
Info
TFA's closest reviewer (geographically) who spends most of his spare time training for the 'Worlds Strongest Man' competition and being nagged by the editor to get his reviews in on time. Useful to have around to open jam jars but don't sneak up behind him or you'll end up in a neck brace.
Movie tastes
Horror, sci-fi, fantasy and animation of the manga variety.

Name   Alex Ballard (Staff Writer)
Info
Alex started writing about movies a few years ago, but has only recently become decent enough to warrant publishing. Music plays a key role in his life. When listening, it’s Slint, Brutal Truth, Neurosis and Claudio Simonetti soundtracks. When playing, give him a loud guitar or an overdriven bass and he'll "whip your ass!"
Movie tastes

Favourite movies include Romero’s Day of the Dead, the Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart biopic, Wrestling with Shadows, anything with a xenomorph or yautja, war movies and, obviously enough, Hooper’s masterpiece, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Oh yeah, and Star Trek rules.

Name   Howard Paul Burgess (Staff Writer)
Info
A country boy who drives a Chevy truck but loves Sondheim and Cole Porter.  Most of my adult life has been spent working in education and law enforcement.  Texan by birth, Southern Baptist by the grace of God.  Senior citizen, proud grandpa of Emily (second grade) and Megan (pre-kindergarten).

Almost everything.  Name a genre and there's something in it that I've enjoyed.  I have no trouble watching a Woody Allen movie Friday night, an Italian zombie movie Saturday night, and ending the weekend with a Katherine Hepburn movie.  My favorite movie of all time is Waiting for Guffman.  I'm one of those dinosaurs who actually enjoys going to a movie (as in leave the house and go to an actual theatre) to see movies the way they were meant to be seen.  If you watched Dr. Zhivago on your computer monitor believe me, you have not really seen Dr. Zhivago.

TFA would like to give a big thanks to the following contributors:-
Alan Hoose, Albert Koleba
