2069: A SEX ODYSSEY (1974)
For some reason, the alien women of Venus have come to Earth (somewhere around the Alps, one would wager) in order to extract sperm from Earth men to repopulate their planet. Just wait until you see the apparatus they use! Instead of the hardcore porn parody of Kubrick's landmark sci-fi effort you might expect from a title like 2069: A Sex Odyssey, what you end up getting is more like a parody of a C-grade 50s sci-fi film mixed with a Carry On film (with a somewhat familiar narrative to Barbarella, oddly enough). Only a bit more explicit and with sexy women and seriously ugly men. If you liked Invasion of the Bee Girls, you'll probably find this pretty entertaining, in that 'special' way.
I have to be honest and tell you that this is indeed a bad film, but I'm a lover of bad cinema, and I actually quite enjoyed this one. The FX and costumes are just as cheesy as many American B-grade sci-fi films of the 50s (and Z-grade ones like Journey to the 7th Planet - think about that title for a minute), the dubbing and obvious puns (Inspector Peckholder, for instance, and 'If you're a doctor, give me an injection!') are terrific fun for those with a warped sense of humour, and the women are absolutely stunning (there's even a lesbian scene, woo-hoo!). It's also very, very weird. For instance, there's this frumpy middle-aged woman who comes across like a European Shelley Winters and who keeps wanting to shove her breasts in guys faces to show them she's still hot (she isn't). Then there's the slightly sleazy doctor with a seriously kinky bedside manner. When he happens upon a frozen alien woman (don't ask), he takes her into a sauna to thaw her out, but makes it with her just for the hell of it! 2069: A Sex Odyssey is one of the more enjoyable titles to be released on ei Cinema's 'Retro-Seduction Cinema' label, just make sure you know what you're letting yourself in for. All of which begs the question of what score to give it. 5 would make it seem kind of ordinary, a much higher score would of course be ridiculous, and a score of 1 would suggest it were another Plan 9 from Outer Space, and that's impossible. So, I'll compromise.
The DVD comes with a second feature called Run, Virgin Run. It's basically another dubbed European sex comedy about a town of horny women and one seemingly extraordinarily virile young stud. It plays like a foreign-language Benny Hill sketch stretched to feature length and with more sexual content. Personally, I found it less interesting than the main feature, though once again the women were very pleasing to look at. Also featured are rather useless radio spots for Run, Virgin Run. We also get a slew of trailers including several vintage 'nudie clip' collections. Bottoms Up and I Like the Girls Who Do are dopey European comedies in a similar vein to Run, Virgin Run. Misty, a Joseph Sarno film looks positively yummy, and seemingly wall-to-wall sex scenes. Abigail Leslie is Back I had actually heard of, and is yet another Sarno effort, and the pretentious voice-over in the trailer is a hoot. Girl Meets Girl is a Sarno film actually called Bibi, Confessions of Sweet Sixteen in the trailer. Laura's Toys, which boasts the line 'They are programmed to cum on command!' looks like an absolute classic. Not sure if it has a story, though. Fancy Lady is more of the same, only seemingly more graphic. Also included are trailers for the main feature as well as its main extra Run, Virgin Run, and Vampire Ecstasy.
