AMERICAN PSYCHO 2 (2002)
|
After the success of the original American Psycho staring ice cool Christian Bale, a repeat performance was inevitable. Bale however saw the lay of the land and jumped ship seeing that very little could evolve from his character without it turning into another slowly diluting slasher series. The link between the original and the follow up could not be more wafer thin with poor little Rachael Newman being tied to a chair whilst Patrick Bateman slaughters her babysitter. Rachael some how manages to escape and flourishes into a determined high school student with a passionate desire to become a serial killer profile for the FBI. To achieve her goal she knows she must win a place to become her Professor's assistant. Hotly contested by other students she will do just about anything to succeed in her goal.
The blatant attempt to cash in on the original's success is the biggest insult and perhaps if this had been a stand alone horror, It would have faired better. I must admit that I wasn't a massive fan of the original as the film didn't enable you to relate to any one as either the victim and defiantly not the killer and this was the same for number 2. I just couldn't care less who lived or died.

Erm...William Shatner falls out of a window.

At least the original was pretty graphic in places, this one cops out and shows the good stuff off screen.
