BINGE & PURGE (2002)
Terrorism has thrust America into a totalitarian state, where police enforce the mean streets with a zero tolerance policy. When two officers vanish whilst investigating the disappearance of a fashion model, three private detectives are assigned to the strange case.

An indie production that plays out like a cross between 'Return of the Living Dead' and 'Resident Evil', 'Binge and Purge' is a balls out horror flick that contains a heady mix of over-the-top gore, realistic action and an interesting plot. Examining each ingredient as a sole element, you would have to mention the gore effects ahead of anything else as bucket loads of innards are thrown about, chomped on and gnawed at in a cannibalistic ballet. An additional stomach churner comes when these meat eaters are seen vomiting onto there food in a similar vein to that of the film 'The Fly'. Trust me this is not for those with a weak constitution.

The action in the film surprised me a little as it was actually quite good. Forget 'The Matrix', I'm talking one of two decent explosions, but in a low budget movie these stand out remarkably and really add a certain distinction to the proceedings. Coupled with these spot effects comes the wardrobe, which is something that often comes as a second thought on a lot of productions, but Clement and his team have ensured that, for example, the SWAT team look like heavily armed and protected cops as they smash down doors and storm buildings rather than looking like road sweepers with badges.

An interesting decision was also made with this films direction purely from an exploitation point of view. The story contains some very attractive fashion models which you could be forgiven for thinking would be scripted to shed their clothing each time the wind changes direction. This couldn't be further from the truth with a count of only one boob shot in total, we end up watching for the enjoyment of the story rather than a cheap thrill. OK some we do get some sexy cleavage but this is a film that demands to be seen on it's technical merits and not on it's nipple count (which is two by the way).
