Analysis
I went to see this movie with no high expectations unlike when I went to see Reloaded. I didn’t want to feel let down like I did after watching 'The Matrix Reloaded'. Don’t get me wrong, 'Reloaded' was not a bad movie, it just did not live up to the hype it received.

The usual characters are all present within the third instalment along with a few new characters such as Bruce Spence as the Trainman. The main characters seem to feature less than before in the story as a whole. Like Tank not featuring in the second matrix the virus twins don’t make the third instalment. I have to accept that they were killed at the end of the chase sequence in Reloaded. Gloria Foster died before filming commenced for 'Revolutions' and so Mary Alice takes on her role but rather than just having to except that the person in the role has just been replaced, the Wachowski Brothers throw in an explanation within the story line to try and explain why this change has occurred.

The action builds gradually throughout the film and is just so full on as the sentinels invade Zion, and simultaneously we have Niobe piloting her ship back to Zion through an engineering tunnel pursued by thousands of sentinels. The combination of both action sequences leaves the viewers eyes needing a rest. But the quality of these scenes is impressive as they are on such a grand scale. This is were viewing on a large screen is really a benefit. I can see that the film will not look out of place on an IMAX screen.

The film appears to draw concepts and ideas from many external sources such as the Bible right down to just simple things like the similar robots controlled by people like in the film 'Aliens'. It also draws on itself. The action sequences where Trinity and Morpheus enter the club are almost identical to the scene in the lobby from the original movie.

On reflection a friend left the cinema with a totally different opinion to myself of what’s real and what is not. I must admit I am going to need to share opinions and probably watch the film again before I can fully understand some of the events that take place in 'Revolutions'. Without throwing in too many spoilers just what was the purpose of the train station, the introduction of the three computer program characters at the station to show that programs as people can exist outside the matrix? A world between Zion and The Matrix to smuggle programs out? And just how does Neo take his powers in to the real world. The ability to see characters within the matrix code in the real world except its bright yellow with orange outlines? How does he have the powers to stop sentinels? Why does that damn Architect arrive as Reloaded and Revolutions draw to a close just to add his comments to confuse matters further? Maybe people who read this review can leave their comments and opinions on these matters.

A good ending to the trilogy but it could have ended clearer. Go and see this movie for the Sentinels attacking Zion alone.

Key Area Rating (out of 5)  Comment
Action
A slow paced start, but the action just snowballs to the point where there is so much occurring on screen its just epic, and your eyes will need a rest.
Tension
Its the final part and you just need to know how those Wachowski Brothers are going to build up the tension and end this ambitious rollercoaster ride.
Violence/
Gore
Plenty of human vs. machine action but very little blood shed. A general gets his face disfigured nicely by the sentinels. Look out for that one.
Bare Flesh
None
A very big Zero. But expect plenty of leather clad bondage lovers in the hell club.
Plot
It’s a great concept behind the story that makes the Matrix trilogy. The journey that Neo has led through the 3 movies has made valuable and successful entertainment throughout the world. The final plot concludes the story adequately.

Verdict
This film is defiantly not as bad as the majority of the film critics initial reviews make out. It just about concludes the trilogy satisfactorily. The battle scenes are impressive, the acting acceptable and the storyline interesting. The original Matrix film in my opinion always will be the best film with myself scoring that with a nine for its originality. But the third instalment is on par with Reloaded if not slightly better and so it scores a worthy seven. Will there be another movie that rises out of the embers ten years down the line? Only time will tell.

You know what, it's more entertaining and exciting than 'Reloaded' so therefore it's better than the 2nd one. Revolutions will be on my top list this year.
Simo
The film was great, almost saves the terrible Reloaded. The fight scenes were great and the story wraps up nicley. Sad to see the greatest sci-fi since star wars end.
John
I like the last 2 films beter. Matrix revolutions is very sad. It kills most of the major characters......
Thomas Hunter It isn't as good as the firs two films. It spoiles them.

It is apparent that I am not the only one who has the opinion that the reception to Reloaded & Revolutions was luke warm due to saturation of the original into other hollywood films and literature thus crossing genres in film category. Both films were always gonna be panned due to the first being SF genre appeal. As it used grounbreaking sfx these were bastardised (Microsoftised) and referred to such family classics like Shrek etc... these audience attention would then lean to the source which in turn creates more hyperbole and even more interest. You now see pressure beginning to build on the Wachowski brothers, If this film stuck to its roots it would have been reviewed differently but as they were marketing it to the masses ($$$$$$$$) they were never gonna get the story correct.
