Every so often a film will cross my huge clammy palms with the ability to both shock and entertain me in way's I thought would not be possible after all my years of being subject to a lot of mediocre movies. 'Penetration Angst' is one of these rare commodities that dares to differ from the blue print set so rigidly by the big budget productions and instead goes down it's own very dark but very amusing path.
Please stay with me as I outline the plot as this alone cannot begin to describe the joyful bizarreness of this work. Helen, a young sexually confused woman with a fear of intermit situations, experiences her first sexual encounter by way of a forceful fumble in her boyfriends car. After asking him not to go near her vagina, he tricks her into sex only for Helen to discover that he has suddenly vanished with only a crumpled pile of cloths remaining. Helen starts to hear voices coming from between her legs demanding that her vagina be fed. It is then that she realises that each sexual encounter will result in the consumption of her partner at the furry hands of her muff.
Well, I did ask you to bear with it! In text, this premise might sound ridiculously sleazy and not worth the bother, but you would be missing out on a unique cinematic experience. Sure it's low budget stuff with only average acting from the mainly British cast but you have to appreciate the distinctiveness of it's story. This isn't a straight laced art house style movie either as the whole film is peppered with some pretty effective humor that comes in two flavours, dry and dark.
If you thought that the main story was strange enough, we also get a parallel story that follows the ups and downs of Helen's friend Dennis who is clearly attracted to Helen but who has been pushed away for obvious reasons. When Helen runs away to London he attempts to find her but ends up getting it to all kinds of crazy situations including an encounter with Siamese twin sisters who comprise of one half book worm and the other half smutty bitch. When our studious sister falls in love with Dennis the opportunity for wicked one liners, especially during an intermit sex scene between the two, does not go to waste.
